Memory Loss

Hi, I'm new here and struggling with the most situation with my Mom.  She is starting to think my Dad is an imposter.  She keeps saying my Dad ran off her real husband and she hates this man (my dad).  I have no earthly idea how to respond to this.  Today I showed her pictures of her and my Dad while he was standing there but she swore they looked nothing alike and then she said the imposter brainwashed me and that I was lying.  I can handle a lot of situations but since this one seems to happen more frequently, maybe someone has some suggestions?

Hi Zoe and welcome to the forum.  Not that it helps, but there's a name for this (Capgras syndrome).  I would talk to her doctors about medications that may help (atypical antipsychotics, like Seroquel/Risperidone).  A sign of advanced disease.  Sorry for your need to be here, but you've come to a good place.

Thank you so much and yes it does help just to know there's a name for it and maybe something that can help relax my Mom.
