advancing symptoms

This week has been awful--my husband seems to be entering another stage in his illness (Alzheimers). He can't remember how to do things that 2 weeks ago he could do (with some effort, but he could complete tasks). He just seems so utterly confused and perplexed about everything. And he's sad, because he realizes he is declining.

He forgets we are home. Asks where we are, when are we going home. Can't find his way to the bathroom (ended up in the laundry room last night).

Just venting. I'm so worried and tired.

If this is something that came on suddenly, it could be due to a UTI instead of progression. It could be worth having him checked for UTI because if there is an infection, after treated he could return to baseline. If you have him tested, please ask for a culture with it.

I'm so sorry you're experiencing this. I have had the same experience with my mom for the last 6 months or so. She used to lose abilities gradually. Now she loses them seemingly overnight and with finality. A few months ago we were still using pads in underwear. Then all of a sudden we were in diapers overnight. Within 2 weeks of that we were in diapers 24 hours per day. She can know how to buckle her seatbelt one day and then just gone the next. I feel like things are happening so fast. It breaks my heart and also makes it hard to adjust. My heart goes out to you.
