Final arrangements for AL
First of all, I want to thank all of you for your experiences, wisdom and care. This group has been such a source of help for me.
I have secured a room for dad in AL. Just have to pick a move in date. He is sad and hopes he can come back home someday. Letting him hold onto that but we all know he won’t. Told him doctor is making him go as when I presented it as a choice he wasn’t going to do it. Had to go so far to tell him that is he went against doctor wishes I could get in big trouble for not getting him to go. He at least had enough reason to understand that.
Just a few questions on transition. I have read many posts, just looking for clarification as some answers are different.
Move in day - how long do you stay? Do you do short visits multiple? Or just make a day of it and stay? Daily visits or less? Subsequent visits and length? Does this depend on the transition progress? I realize even when I visited him at home he really had no idea how long I was here. In fact, I am here 24/7 now and not sure he realizes as he will tell me something that happened that I was here for.
Phone or no phone? It would only be a cell phone.
My assumption is he will be sad and lonely even though at home I am really his only visitor. He will definitely have more interaction in AL.
Thank you again for your help with this and for all who have replied to my questions previous and anyone who has taken the time to post any experience. So very helpful and I could have never gotten here without all of you!

Hope it goes well for you. No right or wrong answers here, so much just depends. i would take your cues from the AL staff both on the move-in day and subsequently. They've done this many times. ditto on the phone thing; does he call you a lot now? Is he still able to use a phone reliably? Again it just depends. He may not as sad and lonely as you think, he may thrive.
Let us know how it goes....
