My wife is urinating on floor.

My wife recently started urinating on floor instead of going to bathroom.  Mainly happens when she wakes up in the morning or through the night.  She wears depends, but she takes them off and squats and pees on the floor.  I don't know what to do about it.  She's capable of walking to the bathroom.   Anybody else experiencing this.

Hello Robert.  I think that is not unusual.  I bought a bed alarm (Amazon $30-40.)  It will wake you up with an alarm when she gets out of bed.  I also found it very useful when my DW got to the stage where she sleeps more than I do.  Even later it will allow you to keep up with night time wandering that may happen.  Rick

The alarm is a great idea.

It is not easy to keep in mind that physically capable has nothing to do with remembering

Please let us know if the alarm works.

An alarm is a great idea!

My mother always set off the bed alarm at the hospital and rehab units. Even when I was sitting on the bed and got up to close the door set the alarm off. I am sure the nurses lost weight running to check on her.

Thank you for your comments.  I'm just hoping the alarm will give me time to grab her and lead her to the bathroom, before she takes off her depends.

When my person did this, it was because she had a UTI. If you notice any other issues (anxiety) or more frequent urination or incontinence it may not be a bad idea to get checked. I waited too long because I thought it was just another behavior issue or stage, but it was because she must have had an urgency to go. Once she was treated, she was back to normal of waiting until I took her to the bathroom on her schedule.

    Good luck!

I bought the Lunberg early alert bed alarm and it's working like a charm.  As soon as it goes off, I am in the bedroom leading her to the bathroom.  It only happens in the morning when she wakes up.  She appears to be totally disoriented not really knowing where the bathroom is located.  This tool has helped me out tremendously.

Thank you everyone for the recommendation on a bed alarm.  I had no idea that something like this existed!
