As DH’s mobility has continued to decline it is becoming more challenging to get him out of the house to medical appointments.  There is a visiting physicians group near us that provides in-home medical care for persons with dementia or physical disabilities.  The MDs in this group are  internal medicine specialists, and they work with a team of nurse practitioners and physician assistants.  Other than his neuro-cognitive disorder DH is pretty healthy…no cardiac, lung, kidney or other issues.  Mainly he needs an MD or other prescriber to see him annually and renew his prescriptions.  Wondering if anyone had used a visiting physician service for in-home care (non hospice) and what your experience has been.

We use visiting physicians but they specialize in dementia. They’ve been great.

I think it depends mainly on the area you are in and the people you are dealing with. My friend in a different location had great luck with them. I, unfortunately, am not so lucky. There is constant turnover, communication problems, an no continuity of care. Two of the people I have dealt with have a dismissive attitude regarding any medical issues and want to brush everything under the dementia umbrella. I haven't given up yet though, because I think it could be a very useful service.

I think you should definitely give them a try. It might work out great for you.
