Are caregivers living in a ghost town?

It may take a village to raise a child, but you may discover a ghost town when it comes to the dying.

Why dying at home is not all it’s cracked up to be | The Caregiver Space

I have a sister who has advanced cancer and most likely only has several months left. My mother is showing signs of moving towards advanced dementia. Both my mother and my older sister are under hospice care. My relationship with my younger sister is broken.

As I was reading the above article in regard to my sister's hospice care, I could also relate the words to being a caregiver of someone who has dementia. My sister will likely pass away in a hospice facility, but my mother's death will either be at a hospital or in memory care.

Being the caregiver without support, it does feel like living in a ghost town.

This is why I pray every night that my mother passes away in her sleep. I don't expect my brothers to assist in our mother's care like I do or would do if she passed away slowly.  I do know they would be here to give me a break to rest, eat or take a shower if she passed away slowly.

So yes if my mother passes slowly it will feel like a ghost town.  Which is  no different than it is now.  I only receive relief when I ask b/c I have to run personal errands. Am I expecting too much of ppl, hoping ppl would chose to offer help????
