Father and Brother

ALZHEIMERS is so interesting. My brother does not sleep well. I can hear him wandering around during the night. While watching him during the day, I have noticed that he falls asleep/naps while he is sitting in his couch. He falls asleep with his chin resting on his chest.
This position is eerily similar to my father, who after being placed in memort care, assumed the same position, but in a wheelchair. I talked with him while visiting, but there was no acknowledgement from him that he heard anything.
Is my brother’s napping a symptom or the result of having alzheimers ? Is this the start of a particular stage of dementia ? I am trying to stay aware of my brother’s ever changing condition. What is going on ?

A lot of older men have difficulty sleeping through the night.  My grandfather was awake a lot in the wee hours, and I find I now sleep 10 pm to 2 am and 5 am to 9 am instead of 8 consecutive hours.  If my  wife didn't sleep so late in the morning, I would probably take afternoon naps instead of the 5 to 9 am thing.

Bottom line, I don't see your brother's naps as a sign of dementia, necessarily.

If he is often up at night, his body is going to need those naps. Common occurrence for those whose circadian rhythm is off.
