    That is so sad.  I just had a heated argument about locking all of the medications in the cabinets with the childproof locks.  My stepdad keeps bringing the meds back out to where my mom can get close to them.  It’s a daily struggle.

    What led me to conclude my mom could absolutely no longer live on her own was when a physical therapist left a glob of plastic silly-putty for my mom to exercise her hands and my mom put it in a dish and placed it in the refrigerator as if it were a desert. It was clear my mom could no longer identify edible from non-edible things. This was when she was in Stage 5, and didn't need help yet with assisted-living-type activities, like dressing or bathing. So it was fairly early on when she was no longer capable of distinguishing what was safe to eat.
