Cannabis and Senior Living Facilities

Hi, I care for my 77 year old mom that has Alzheimers. She is in the early stages and still lives alone at home with help from me for errands, bill paying, groceries etc.  It is progressing and we have started looking at senior living with all stages of care as she would like to start out independent with help from me at times. The problem is she has been a cannabis user for 50 years and isn't interested in stopping. She currently vapes cannabis and I am not finding any senior living facilities that will allow this. Has anyone heard of senior living that will allow cannabis use inside their apartment? We are in Washington County, Oregon area. Thanks in advance for any advice!

I don't know if Oregon allows for medical pot. If they do, and she has it prescribed for her, I would expect facilities to allow it. Have you asked about that, or did you simply ask about allowing pot?

That is an issue; it will probably be considered an issue in that it is smoked or vaped and the fallout from the emissions as well as smoke or vape exposure to others.  If she has a valid medical prescription from her doctor for the cannabis, that also may be helpful.

NOTE:  Edibles, sublinguals or topicals can also deliver cannabis; would your mother be willing to have that method of delivery?  If she would and as said, if she has a prescription, it may be easier to gain access to a care facility.

Hi, yes I did ask specifically about medical marijuana and they said not allowed. But this may not be the case for all facilities. I'm going to keep asking around

And I would love for her to switch to edibles but it's been such a long habit, at this time she isn't willing to switch and she also is at risk of taking too many edibles because she doesn't remember she took them and they take longer for effect.
