What if they get lost?
Hello to everyone in the community. My grandmother has Alzheimer's and she has a poor memory but she is hyperactive. We try to communicate with her, but she never stays at one spot. She's always walking around and her speed is unexpected fast, we are always worried about her getting lost because of it. I really think it's hard for lost Alzheimer's to be recovered because my grandma can't remember the location of our home at all. She can't even remember her family's looks or phone numbers!
I am considering the proposal of a locator. If we as caregivers could receive alerts about wandering and location, then there would be a chance of finding them.
How often do you think it would be appropriate to receive alerts (say once an hour, or once every two hours)? And, is this proposal humane?

You could just get some kind of tracker. Then you would always know the vicinity she is in.
Contact your local police department, and let them know your concerns. They just about all have databases they keep for just that reason. They will likely ask for a picture they can copy to have available to them in case she gets lost. Also try to keep an eye on what clothing she is wearing. That is helpful information for police when looking for her.

I'm of the opinion that all children and elderly parents should be chipped, J/K, so I am probably not the one to ask.
Mayor Ed's advice to contact your local LE is a good one. Whoever is your grandmother's live-in caregiver should make sure make sure she isn't able to leave the house alone. This might mean alarms or a simple hook and eye lock high on the doors to the outside. If she's walking outside, she needs a companion with her. As a backup, you could make sure she wears a Medic-Alert bracelet that states dementia and caregiver contact information.

LO wears a medical bracelet that she can’t take off on her own that has my cell phone number on. It was also time to install door alarms/chimes to give a signal that someone is on the move.0

Get a geofencing tracker.

HB, love the chipping idea for children too. Haha. Thanks for the smile.Tracking your demented LO is necessary and humane in my opinion.0
