Finances - Husband has Early-Onset Alzheimer's Disease

My husband, after genetic testing and neuropsychological testing, has been diagnosed with Dominantly Inherited Alzheimer's Disease.  He's 39 years old.  At this point they have said he has "mild cognitive impairment."  He's very forgetful with conversations, appointments, routines, etc.

We have the forms, and he is going to fill them out, for medical POA, financial POA, and healthcare directive.  He will be applying for social-security disability next week.

I am posting here to see if anyone has any advice about any other financial steps to take.  My fear is that if he gets worse with dementia, he will make unadvised purchases or fall prey to a scammer.  We're not wealthy.  We'd be in a lot of trouble if he took on a debt, say, for several thousand dollars.

Has anyone been here?  What do you think?

    Freeze his credit reports.

Put daily limits on debit cards.

Transfer savings to your name only.

    Close credit cards.

Limit amount in any accounts he has access to.
