Asking for help(3)

Alzheimer’s/dementia is hard - especially on caregivers. This past week was so rough on Friday I realized I needed to bring more people into my circle.

I asked someone to help make a list of questions for the doctor (next visit in 3 weeks)

I asked another person to spend the day with me and my LO

Finally, I’m going to an in person support group tomorrow night.

I’ve also committed to going to the gym at least 3 or 4 times a week to let off steam.

I was surprised how many people I could think of to ask to help with specific things. Just a reminder:bringing people in can make all the difference. I feel much better than I did a week ago.

I am so happy for you - we do need to reach out for help.  This is an impossible "journey" on our own.

Thank you Chicagogal! It is, and I forget that I can and must ask for help sometimes. Figured it was a good reminder. This website has been a godsend. I’m committed to getting support and really working to not unravel. I hope my post reminds/inspires others facing same.

Nothing like a burst of cardio to let off steam!   I'm with you all the way, Anonymousjpl123.  I made that same commitment when my sister was diagnosed in 2018. I'm still going to the gym 3-4 days a week (or working out at home). Sometimes it's hard to make it happen, and sometimes you just can't, and that's okay. A side benefit is that after a good work out, I often can approach whatever it is I'm working on in a fresh light.

I'm also with you about this website - it's been a life saver.

Gothic yes! The energy release is intense for me. I am so glad I went and committed to going. Also going to in person support group was amazing. It’s hard to force myself to find time for all of this. But it was so helpful to talk to people living this. It is a unique experience for everyone but was truly the first time I felt like I was talking to people who really understood on a deep level and practical level what I’m going through. People’s specifics are different (siblings, parents, spouses) but the stress and navigating everything - legal, doctors, emotions - so much is the same. We can remind each other and share.
