Edema in Alz patients

I realize this isn't the perfect place to ask this but I'm sure alot of you are familiar with this. Mom's furomeside has been increased to 60mg but her ankles are swollen and heavy as ever. She is also complaining of cloudy vision that could be caused from said increase three weeks ago. I hate to see her (89 yrs) with mobility issues too. Has anyone had good results with edema? Are some old folks stuck with that leg condition?

What you are describing is most likely due to some combination of heart disease and/or kidney disease, not AD.  Cut out all salt, wear support hose and follow doctor's directions to reduce edema.  Good luck.

It will be difficult, but she should probably sleep with her legs elevated, also keep legs elevated during the day as much as possible.  Are you able to check her blood pressure at home?  Does she have a diagnosis of congestive heart failure? How frequently does the doctor want her monitored?

I believe the information you have been given here is probably pretty accurate. However, it would be best if you would contact the physician that increased her medication. Explain the results like you did here, and see what they say.

    Do let us know.

Eaglemom is correct.  Contact the doctor and ask for instructions.
