Mom in Law in Late Stage - Advice Needed

She's getting increasingly verbally combative and today went for a walk thinking she was going to walk to target (more than 5 miles away). When my husband and family friend went after her, she tried to flag a policeman down because he wouldn't take her to target. There's a reason we don't. They finally got her home and she refused to go inside and said some hurtful things that weren't true. My husband and I are at our wits end. We're over stressed and overwhelmed and we need help with her. She increasingly won't listen to us and now she's putting our family in danger. We live with her with our 2 kids and a baby and she's causing us to fear for our safety as well as hers. I'm not sure if just hiring someone to take her out for a few hours is good enough or if we need to start considering a memory card facility for her. She's not violent toward people thus far, she's just getting extremely difficult to handle. Any suggestions are welcome and appreciated.

Hey there.  There's a saying around here that if you're asking the question, you probably already know the answer.  Yes, it may well be time to consider memory care depending on what finances allow.  Steps you could take in the interim might include medication to damp down some of the behaviors, and I wonder about a day program?  that might be something to consider that could give you all some breathing room.   It would certainly serve the purpose of getting her out for a bit.  Good luck.....
