Type 2 diabetic or hypoglycemia - Medicare changes

Continuous glucose monitors will now be covered under Medicare for people on basal(one a  day) insulin shots or for problematic hypoglycemia.  I believe we have a member with the latter condition?   The prior requirement was three plus shots a day.

My spouse and I are thrilled.  Even with recently enhanced GoodRX support, we’ve been paying over $200 a month for his monitor supplies.  It was over $400 a month before the enhancement to GoodRX

Quilting, thank you very much. I am that member. Really good to know. Now if they would cover the cost for my injections, that would be great. But since I'm not diabetic, it's a no-go.

Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately) I don't meet the criteria to qualify. You need at least two instances per year where you need someone else to administer glucose or other means of bringing glucose levels up to normal. I've been low, but not low enough I need assistance. But I just thought that there might be another member who is dealing with hypoglycemia.

Ed- I thought you might be the person I was thinking of.  I’m sorry that you don’t qualify - but who knows, maybe they will change that qualification later on.      I had read that they were considering the insulin requirement change for much later this year- so was surprised that it’s taking place in April.   It’s really in their best interest to do so as better monitoring means better control and fewer complications.  Less money spent by the government  for health care
