Geriatric care

I have aimlessly been looking for doctors in our area that specialize in Dementia, I am in Grand Forks, ND. My mom is late on set and is seeing an internal medicine doctor whose help has been very minimal since she doesn't specialize in the disease. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the forum. Are you looking for help with a diagnosis, medication for behavior, or just general info on how to handle interactions with and care for your mom? For a diagnosis you want a neurologist or geriatric psychiatrist, for behavior medication same, for interacting and caring for your mom or even general info, a doctor is less likely to be of use. For the last the Alz association hotline or your local alz association might be of help.

Please check into using a Nurse Practitioner (NP). I did a quick search and for example found this NP who specializes in geriatrics https://www.altru.org/find-a-provider/kelly-leiphon-gnp-bc/

NPs also specialize in psychiatric care, so as towhee says, that might be a specialty to explore.

The University of ND has a Adult-Gero NP program so they might be able to steer you to a graduate who works in your region.

I have no affiliation with any practitioners in ND but wanted you to be aware of an additional resource. Best of luck to you and your mom.
