DH passed

My DH passed away early this morning. I’d left MC at 8:30 to go home and sleep. I returned to MC around 2 in the morning. He died in my arms 90 minutes later.
It’s astounding to me that exactly 6 months ago on Sunday, October 16th I called 911 and he was admitted to geripsych for 30 days. Memory care for 45 days. Hospital for 17 days. Another geripsych for 41 days. MC for 6 days. Geripsych for 6 more days. MC for 3 days. Hospital for 11 days. MC for 10 days… and then gone on Sunday, April 16th.
I know I am lucky that this disease took him so quickly and that a prolonged illness is worse.
But I miss the man. He was comatose the last 3 days, but when I spoke to him, I knew he could hear me. And I spoke to him as if his brain was once again back to normal. A part of me thinks he understood everything I said.
I’m happy that he will no longer suffer. The 100 or so days in the hospital was brutal for both of us.
Thanl you all for the support from this forum.

That he died in your arms was a wonderful gift. My DH died in my arms three months ago and I’m grateful I was with him at the end. I'm sure you are too.

I am so sorry for all that you have been through. But I see the two of you together, you holding him as the greatest gift you could ever imagine. Be kind to yourself, take time for yourself and remember to breath.

ElCy,
I am so sorry to learn of your loss, especially after the chaos and sadness of your/his last six months. Clearly, this disease wreaked havoc on both of you; you both deserve rest now. Happily, both you and he found peace at his passing in your embrace. I wish you continued peace going forward.
