Financial Assistant for Moms Caregiver

Good morning. I have been caregiving for my mom with Early Onset Alzheimers for the past year. Unfortunately, her care needs are far greater than I feel comfortable caring for and honestly I am just burnt out.

My family is looking for some kind of care for her, whether it’s a daycare facility, nurse at home, etc.

My mom only has Medicare, so we get no financial help with anything. She has a small retirement fund, but we’d rather not dip into it right away, as we have no idea her timeline/how long she will need care in the future. I’m just wondering if anyone else has been in this situation and how you handled it financially.

Is there any kind of financial aid or any assistance to help us with costs? Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you and God bless.

    Hi Marisa,

I just had a conversation about this for my folks and the social worker said they may qualify for Medicaid LTC max income is a little higher than regular Medicaid - which they don't qualify for so your mom might qualify. You can check with your city/state dept of human services, here's the info I received. LTC is aimed at keeping folks at home longer and from my discussion ALZ is a diagnosis that alone can qualify her.
