Day Care Closing next week - 8 Days Notice!
I am so angry right now, I could spit.
I received a phone call this morning from the SarahCare location my sister attends - They will be closing. Any participants who want to stay with SarahCare can transition to their other location about 40 minutes away (the current location is 15 minutes away).
When must we transition? By May 1 - about 8 days away.
They close at 5:00 p.m. and there is no way I can consistently get to the other location by 5:00 p.m. So I have to try to arrange other transportation. We have a program in my county but it can take several weeks to get set up.
I cannot believe the lack of ethics and the insensitivity that had to go into witholding this information from customers until the last minute. It's not like a business owner wakes up one day and decides to close their business right away. The franchise owners knew this was coming months ago. They could have given us more notice but they didn't care.
It's sad because the direct care staff is awesome and they are as devastated by this as participants and their families are. And they're just as surprised because the owners didn't say anything to the care staff until a couple of days ago.

The almighty dollar wins again. I don't blame you for being angry. I wonder if there's a mechanism for reporting them. Better business Bureau perhaps? Or some oversight agency? I've never heard of this franchise. Don't get mad, get even if you can. Or have the energy. So frustrating and cruel.

When another adult day care in our city closed last year, they gave participants and their families at least 30 days notice. They told the families verbally and followed up with a nice letter explaining the situation and detailed the support they would give to families as they worked on finding care for their loved ones.
This day care just did a phone call giving us 8 days notice we must move and no explanation as to why they waited so long to tell us.
I thought about reporting them because the documentation we received when we enrolled said that termination of care would come with a 30 day notice, except in cases where the participant became a danger to themselves or others. But I'm sure the courts or a regulatory agency would say that care wasn't terminated because they offered us a spot in one of their other facilities. The fact that that facility may not be a workable solution doesn't matter; they offered us continued care.
Thank you for taking the time to respond.
