We lost our son today
I’m not sure that I’ve mentioned that my spouse and I have two adult sons. Today 4/24/2023, the worst happened and we lost our younger one, Nick, at the age of 31. I guess it is after midnight now, so yesterday. He lived almost 4 hours away from us and we had his boss, and then the police do a wellness check at his apartment. We hadn’t heard from him since Saturday and he didn’t show up for work today( Monday) . He had well controlled epilepsy and it appears he died in his sleep from a seizure. The police knew we were coming and they waited until we got there to tell us they had found him. Will find out more tomorrow.
Because we won’t make it back to our home until possibly Wednesday, I had to call my parents with dementia and tell them before they heard it from someone else. We had one of the AL staff members go be in the room with them before we called. They both are still in the mild stage so they understood.
I am in shock

Quilting, I'm so very sorry. Losing a child that young is devastating. We lost a son, age 26, back in 1998. Although it will never be OK, I can tell you that it does get easier with time. Prayers coming for you and your family.

Thank you all. I really appreciate your kind words. Ed, your comments about your own journey are very helpful to me. I’m still numb and possibly in denial. I’m sure that will change later. Right now it’s as if he’s just off somewhere out of sight. We have not seen him yet. It’s hard emptying out his portion of the apartment, but we can’t do anything else today.

Dearest Quilting, there are not words sufficient to express how deeply and truly sorry I am for the tremendous and devastating loss of your beloved son. No matter that our children are grown adults, they are still our babies and hold a special place within our hearts.
We are holding you and your family in our thoughts and in our prayers.
With a soft hug being sent your way,
J.

I am so very sorry. The grief over losing my mother was so life changing; I cannot fathom this burden you now carry from the grief of losing your child. I hope with time you will find peace. Please take care.

Thank you all very much. We’ve gotten the apartment cleaned out and got everything back to our home 4 hours from his apartment last night. Ed and Josey - his apartment was in Muncie IN.
We went to the funeral home today, 30 minutes from our house. The director was very helpful. There was no pressure about which casket or vault. It took a long time because we had never planned a funeral before and wasn’t sure about what we wanted. Then I visited my parents at the AL( 35 minutes from our house in the opposite direction). Tomorrow I am staying home except to run clothing over to the funeral home.
My numbness is starting to wear off, and emotions are creeping in. My spouse is an emotional wreck.
