We had a guest stop and visit this weekend at our house. Unfortunately, this individual who shall remain unidentified, had a bout of food poisoning he/she thinks. On the way to the bathroom, they lost control of their bowels and had some liquid "matter" leak onto our carpeting. Omigosh. Needless to say, the person is unbelievably embarrassed despite my telling them the body does what the body does. The poor person left for home with tears despite our trying to soothe them.

Had no stain remover, so used terry rags and water doing the best we could to remove it, but there is about an ten inch by six inch stain I cannot seem to get out - SO - for those with experience, I would sincerely appreciate any advice re products or other tips about fecal stain removal. Sure do not wish to have to replace carpeting. Thank you for any advice; we will appreciate it.

Have you tried a pet stain removal product like Nature’s Miracle? or Folex is good

I was also going to mention Nature's Miracle. If that doesn't work, see if there is something on youtube. Sorry you're dealing with this.

I just thought of another thing I've tried with various stains. Use some Dawn liquid with a little water to pat down the area. Do not scrub. Then use water on a clean rag to pick up what you can, again without scrubbing. You might have to repeat. Hope it works for you.

I had fecal stains from a sick cat. He had some blood in his stools which I think caused the staining, so once I blotted everything as best I could, I made a paste of an enzyme cleaner (I prefer Biz to Oxyclean) and let it sit overnight before extracting it with my rug cleaner. It did a great job on my dusty sage green nylon rug.

I am not dazzled by Nature's Miracle. IME, Oxy does a better job with feces and Clorox Urine Remover is better for urine and urine stains.

Jo C., buy yourself bottle of Resolve Pet Expert Stain and Odor Remover. Can get it at any drug store or the Home Depot. It will work even on older, set-in stains. Just be sure to use as directed and not leave it on longer than necessary. It took out my stains, but also removed some color from the carpeting -- I think I used a little too much, and I definitely didn't remove it as soon as required. As a longtime cat person, I have used this a lot for vomit and fecal matter, and while it was designed for pet, poop is poop. Good luck!

A word of caution. Oxyclean is good but it will bleach color if you leave it set. I've found that Murphy's oil soap with warm water is gentle and takes out just about anything without damage.

I've heard of a homemade solution with vinegar, water, and Dawn dish soap. I've used it for urine leaks, but, so far, haven't had fecal issues.

You probably never expected you would be asking for help cleaning up after a guest. You probably always thought you would need help cleaning up after your LO.

Some great ideas on this thread. I hope you find something helpful.

I too have done the Dawn dish soap with water and the vinegar. It worked well for the small spots. Definitely dab/blot over scrub.
