Ask for referrals from your local Alzheimers support groups and people who use adult day care programs, senior groups at church, etc.

agreed! Also remember that it may take a few tries with different caregivers to find the right match. I went thru several who were supposedly “experienced”. But .. they were not a good match for my mom. Many of them were too rigid and wanted an exact schedule to follow and that just didn’t work in our situation. The last gal we tried I was a little apprehensive about because she is 22yrs old & a new hire for this agency. But she turned out to be just what my mom needs! She has just the right type of energy, can read situations well, and is quite mature for her age (compared to others I know that age) and has been an absolute godsend!

I guess my point here is, be open and find the one who is the best fit for your mom. Everyone with dementia has different needs, different personalities, and you have to treat them as an individual. Be specific with what you expect from them. And don’t be afraid to tell them exactly how they should be doing their job for you and your mom

    good luck!
