My DH physician has prescribed Nuedexta to help manage some of the symptoms associated with FTD such as angry ,combative and obsessive behaviours. This medication is a combination of Dextromethorphan and Quinidine and primarily used for folks who have TBI who have issues with uncontrollable crying and laughing etc..

So far no side effects. He does seem somewhat less combative and little less angry.

Anyone else use this medication?

Glad it seem s to be working marie. No personal experience with it. It is an odd thing that it is a combination of two very old drugs that has found a new use (and a new price tag). But just glad if it makes a difference.

Has anyone used a generic that might be cheaper than the $1600 Neudexta? Just two simple ingredients shouldn't cost that much for 1 month supply. Any suggestions?

Oh my goodness! You'd think they could prescribe them separately if your spouse doesn't have trouble taking meds.

this is a classic example of exploitation of patent laws. There isn’t a generic equivalent, and I don’t know that you could accurately approximate the combination with generics.

Even if he has trouble taking pills, a pill crusher could solve that. I wonder if a compounding pharmacy could blend the two? Or if the amounts were half and half, a pill cutter might help.
