Introducing myself

Hello. I am brand new to the group. My mother was diagnosed with demential in November of last year. She lives in South Africa and I live in California and I haven't been able to visit yet due to an injury I have. She is well taken care of and is in good spirits most of the time; I FaceTime with her most days.

I am mostly handling the grief well, I think. What prompted me to seek out this group and ask for help is that I sometimes get depressed and shut down and don't communicate with my partner, which is a problem because she is very supportive and doesn't deserve that. But I feel like I'm doing the best I can. I am getting help with the depression but it's sometimes not enough and it's not fair to my partner that I shut down completely.

Any help and / or shared experience would be much appreciated.
