For one my DW keeps trying to break with me but more concerning however is I can't take her anywhere because as we are driving home she gets hysterical, yelling, screaming basically in a panic over her "kids" and that I'm going the wrong way. She even grabbed and pulled my arm while it was on the steering wheel. Almost caused me to lose control. That's happening every time we go somewhere.

Perhaps reach out to the doctor for some meds before you take her anywhere.

Because of steering wheel grabbing, some Members put their LO in the back seat with the seat belt on. Of course that does have the possibility of other issues . . . . it gets to the point that sometimes the LO goes nowhere unless it is absolutely important the LO needs to go such as to a doctor's appointment.

Always good to have a UA done to see if there is a silent UTI present which can cause behavioral upsets, barring that, if it is necessary to take her in the car, it may be that she will do better with appropriate medication as prescribed by her dementia specialist. I can only imagine her panic and upset which is very real for her and must be hellishly horrible to feel.

I don’t know if this would help, but there’s a product made to prevent kids from unbuckling their seatbelt that might be useful. It’s called a Buckle Roo but many brands exist. You can search “seat belt buckle guard” on Amazon or Google. You have to use your car key to remove it. Maybe PWD could sit in back passenger seat and would be far enough away from you driving to reach the steering wheel etc. Probably not a long term solution but maybe a short term fix, if PWD could unbuckle seatbelt while you’re driving.

Meds are for our quality of life as well as theirs. Match a med to a symptom and hope it makes her happier and more manageable.
