One result of the recent forum revamp is lots of new people ( and the reemergence of lurkers) on the forum. It’s definitely changed the feel that the longer posters are used to.

We are a very honest and open group here. We post what we think and feel in the moment. We have to to really get and give the best advice, support and to allow venting. That’s what caregivers really need. Sometimes that honesty and venting rubs people( especially the newer members) the wrong way). Please don’t just jump to conclusions that so-and-so is full of misinformation and hate just because they are venting that some outside force is interfering with their caregiving. Please don’t suggest that another so and so deserves to be mocked or ousted because their beliefs differ from yours. It’s actually against the stated guidelines to mock or harass a poster because their beliefs are different than yours.

There’s lots of threads here. I often just scroll by posts that aren’t my cup of tea. For example, I don’t think certain things cause dementia or that it can be treated by certain methods. I just close those threads without comment and move on. Please don’t try to get people banned just because they are distraught and venting and said something you didn’t agree with. Some of those people are our most useful members

FYI- those disliked birthday cakes do serve one purpose. Combined with the number of posts by a person’s name, they tell you how long and how involved a poster has been on the forum. Give our long term people the benefit of the doubt.

Second FYI-no this post isn’t about me. I will climb down off the soapbox now.
