When I call people that I haven't spoken to in a while, be they relatives or friends, is "No, he is still alive." The see my name on the caller ID and they think I am calling to tell them my dad is dead. I feel funny about it. Does anyone else have this happen?

I always open by saying something upbeat and I start with a cheery voice. Like "Calling to say mom is doing well." Or, "We have good news. Mom is doing better. How are things with you?" Or "Just calling to say hi from mom and I, and see how you are doing." Like you I don't want them to see my number and think oh-oh, she's calling with the news.

Oh yes definitely been there. And whenever a staff from the facility called me they always opened up with "everything is fine." Every stage brings different oddities to our lives.
