Every little slip downward

Today I went to visit my dad. When I got there he asked me where he was. He didn't recognize his own apartment. He has lived there for 50 years. This was a new one and I smacked me in the head like a brick. Usually there is a slow decline, but this was huge to me. He also did not remember my name and called my by one of the grandchildren's names, but this is something that has happened before, but not as pronounced.

I don't know what to do. There is nothing to do I guess. I just told him where he was and he was surprised, but didn't seem upset. Does this mean things are moving faster? I think talking to the doctor is pointless because they don't know either.

Any suggestions????? Thanks so much in advance.

Sorry you had that experience Malika.

Could be more of a decline, or could be one of those days that was not a good one...hard to tell.

Sounds like his long-term memory is starting to go more, which is a sign of the disease progressing; however, could be a one-time thing. If he continually forgets where he is consistently, then that may be a good indicator the disease is progressing.

May be time to start thinking about relocating your father to a facility where he can get 24/7 care if affordable.

May God's light guide your day and His spirit bring you peace.

    All the best.

He is very lucky that he has a 24/7 aide so for the time being he can stay at home. I worry how long the aide will be able to care for him at home. I worry all the time. It is my natural state. (Big sigh).

Thanks for your words. It means a lot.
