New lease?

MC has a new owner. Expecting a new lease sometime in the fall. My lease with the previous owner says a 2 person transfer is a cause for having to leave. I’ve been told there’s a hospice exception, but I’ve never seen that in writing. The new owner says the same thing, but nothing in writing.

Have you any experience with this? Are people asked to leave? It is very possibly a moot point, late stage ALZ and stage 4 cancer.

I'm so sorry. I believe that care facilities are accredited by the state, and there are different levels of care they are allowed to provide for their designation. They should be clear what the parameters are.

For example, my mother's dementia focused AL + MC facility will do hand over hand feeding assistance, but will not spoon feed, because that's considered nursing care. I would have to either have feeding assistance for her if she progresses that far, or move her to a higher level of care facility.

It should spell it out in your contract. If it doesn't then email the new owner asking about it and get written confirmation.

I suspect @Emily 123 is correct that state licensing will dictate a lot of this. I know my aunt was spoon fed in a MCF in MA and saw the same at dad's MCF in PA.

Some of the MCFs I toured when look for dad offered tiered pricing based on level of care needed. There were up-charges based on the number of medications distributed daily, incontinence care, and 2-person lift. In reality this felt like a bait'n'switch situation as many people were accepted into the community at level 1 and quickly transitioned to level 3. The place we chose had one monthly fee. When I mentioned the tiered pricing for a 2-person lift to the DON at dad's MCF, he called BS on that and said he wouldn't have any staff member attempt a lift solo-- it's not safe for the staff member or the resident.

I would ask for a copy of the contract now so you can review it and make plans.
