Mother 92 is paranoid ,middle stage demencia (will hopefully get diagnosed in a month)

she also has agressive breast cancer (waiting for prognostic also)

she is living alone in a retirement home , coping very well still …

One of my Sister’s is spending time with her now for 2 weeks ,the other one take’s her to medical appointments, the last two of us are on the black list (cause we apparently stole money from her) I had the POA but she took it away from me, and now nobody could even mention the word !!

2 sister’s have a « protection mandate » we are in Canada , guardianship in USA , but that could take up to a year to take effect in the case of incapacity, so we are looking for ways to get her to sign a POA , she is very reluctant, want’s us to prove to her that she should , that she is failing etc.

She is gunshy , because she truly believes that I have been stealing money from her for the last 20 years ,

Also anyone aware if the Notary would let het sign a POA is she suspect demencia ?

Any tricks , would be appreciated;)

Best to have a lawyer draw up the Durable Power of Attorney. (The "durable" part means that it continues effect if they become incapacitated.) Would be the the law firm's discretion about whether your LO understood well enough about to what they were agreeing. (My mother had pretty good cognition, but I had her lifelong friend accompany her to the law firm appointment -- someone who could help vouch for her level of understanding.) I'd seek the DPOA _before_ getting the dementia diagnosis. If/when at any point your LO is determined to be "incapacitated" your window of opportunity has closed.

Absolutely get an attorney. Mom thinks the whole facility is stealing from her and not just her money, but her iron, her phone, her toothpaste, her remote control, her broom? We find it all hidden all over her apartment, and then she thinks someone intentionally hid everything. It is really driving us all bonkers and is heartbreaking at the same time. I have bought more toothpaste than a dental practice.

Yes as to the advice above. It is SO HARD.
