My father is going to be 95 in a few months. Diagnosed in 2018. I think he is starting to go into the later stage, but I'm not sure. He doesn't always remember my name though he remembers who I am. He lives in his apartment with a full time aide. I live close by and speak to him numerous times a day and see him more and more during the week. Two weeks ago he called me close and asked me where he was (he was in his apartment). The other morning he told me he was in NYC. Last Tuesday he became very tired and didn't want to eat. This behavior got worse and worse over the next days. I saw him and all he wanted to do was sleep, which is fine. He slept more and more. His aide was worried and started talking about taking him to the ER. I said he had no symptoms and waited up the whole night waiting for the call to come to take him to the hospital. The next morning when he awoke, he was so much better.

Has anyone else had this happen? Is this what happens? Will my father become more and more out of it and never come back? And then what happens?

Thanks to you all,

Malka

IMO it is time for a hospice evaluation if they are not on board yet. They will be helpful to you explaining possible end of life experiences + will be a source of support, supplies + meds.

Thanks, Terei, but last time when they came to evaluate him was one of the days he was good and they wouldn't accept him. Maybe this time is different because last March when he had pneumonia they diagnosed him with an aortic stenosis. Maybe that would make the difference. Last Friday he had PT! This is such a nasty disease. I am still not ready again to call hospice because I was so disappointed last time.
