Social groups

I am wondering if anyone knows of any social groups in the Western New York area that my mother would be able to go to. She sits at home alone and just stares at the television unless I am with her and can take her out. She refuses to go to the Senior Center in our area and I feel she really needs more interaction with people in the same situation as she is in.

I am in Western NY/Finger Lakes area (Monroe County) and not finding much myself. Dad can't walk very far and because he also has parkinsons/essential tremor, he can't do the things he actually likes to do. Our senior center is mostly guys that play cards which he never played so he wouldn't know what to do.
What I can say is look on Lifespan and see what options are available in your area there. I was going to set him up with an adult day program but he's in the hospital right now waiting on a bed to go to short term rehab because he had a sudden change (like almost overnight) in his functional ability. He's been looked at for pneumonia, uti, stroke etc and medically he's got nothing new going on. Sigh.

Here in Western Washington we have a supervised day group run by dementia care professionals for three hours twice a week, where we take residents who are mobile from our adult family home. Even our eldest who is 98, and doesn’t have dementia, enjoys going for the games, activities, and the lunch! We are a small town so having such a resource is not dependent on city size. I would Google: Alzheimer’s daycare near me. I would not present this to your Mom as ‘daycare’ or as anything that suggests she needs help Perhaps you could go together at first, then, after she has adjusted, you could use the time for respite.
