It is a kind of Alzheimer's and is rare

I understand that only 5% of Alzheimer's cases begin under age 65. My late husband started showing signs in his mid-fifties.

Started here in DH's mid 40s. I'm going to guess he falls into the "Unbelievably Rare" category.

Sadly, this is causing many Early Onset cases to be mis-diagnosed. Doctors kept treating DH as severe psychosis for 7 months until his new psychiatrist connected the dots for his behavior/symptoms and made the call of LBD. Even within LBD, it's hard to diagnose if the PWD is in the 20% "rare cases" who don't exhibit all the core symptoms. And it doesn't seem like the medical industry is paying much attention to LBD or the rarer diseases that are the root cause of dementia.

    Not rare enough. 😕

I think my sister Peggy was probably 51 (when I look back) or so when she first started showing signs of MCI. She was 58 when she was diagnosed with early onset.

I have noticed that a good percentage of PWDs of the members here are early onset.

Husband 54 now 58! It’s devastating! Missing my husband! I’m losing him so fast now. Decline in June now another decline in August. I hate this disease! He’s like a toddler and so lost within himself.

DW was diagnosed with EOAD at 62. She is now 66 and early stage 6.

DH was diagnosed at 64 but it had been an issue for several years before. It took 18 months to diagnose and by then he was already considered moderate to severe. I don’t think it is as rare as doctors like to project.
