My mom is currently in a skilled nursing facility due to the fact she fell down the stairs a month ago and suffered a traumatic brain injury. She is currently getting OT, PT and speech therapy but her cognitive abilities are seemingly declining. Neurologist hasn't said a particular type of dementia or if it is in fact dementia at all. It is hard to tell if her cognitive decline is from her fall, several TIA's she has suffered over the years, her recent UTI infections or actually dementia. She is angry, confused and at time paranoid. She is only 70 and this is devastating to witness. I am a mom of three young kids and caring for as been super challenging. Thanks for letting me share.

Welcome to the forum. So sorry-as i approach 68, 70 does indeed seem young! You sound overwhelmed, i hope this forum will help.

Frequent first issue is to make sure your legal ducks are in a row. Do you have medical and financial power of attorney for her? Someone is likely going to need to have it. And it sounds like you need a plan for her living situation, perhaps very soon if she is assessed to be unsafe to live alone. Hopefully the social workers can help you figure out what your options are there.

Deep breath, you've come to a good place. Lots of wise and kind and experienced caregivers here.
