Mom fell. Took her to ER
My Mom was agitated and was trying to get out of the house. My Dad was trying to keep her from hurting herself, but she was pulling away from my Dad and tripped, hitting her head on a piece of furniture on the way down. Dad tried to catch her but she was fighting him and hit her head anyway. She has a decent bump, no external bleeding. Waiting in the waiting area while Mom gets triaged. Dad is with her since he was there.
This all just sucks worse and worse. My Dad is never going to forgive himself for not being able to catch her (even though it’s obviously not his fault)

Your poor dad, this must be exhausting for you both.
Has she been combative/agitated often? Might be a good time to see if meds need adjusted...

LittleVolcano, I am so sorry to hear what happened with your mother. I hope she is okay and that they are treating her well in the hospital. And of course, your father has absolutely nothing to feel guilty about. I hope he will be able to see this in time. I am sending you and your family lots of strength and wishes for a smooth recovery.

I'm so sorry to hear about this. I hope your mom is OK. I'm currently dealing with the aftermath of my mother having a fall that broke her shoulder and her cheekbone.
She was hurrying to try to answer the landline. I checked later and discovered it was just another telemarketer. We had to turn off the ringers on the landlines because she keeps trying to get to them. We keep the landlines for emergencies because on the border between two counties cell phones sometimes go to one and sometimes go to the other so you get quicker emergency response with the landline which goes to the correct county's 911 service.
I hope the ER does the full concussion routine since she hit her head. Head injuries can be bad even in people who don't have dementia. Praying for your family.

Let us know how she is when you can, LV. Jmack, I'm sorry about your mother's fall too. I keep a landline for the same reasons and had to keep the ringers turned off.

Thankfully Mom's CAT scan came back negative and we were back home in a few hours (a record!). That and a couple other things I think have convinced Dad that keeping Mom at home is no longer a good idea. There's a lovely board and care near us that he's toured and is applying to for Mom.
And I had my first session with a new therapist today. She specializes in helping caregivers dealing with anticipatory grief, etc., and I think it's a good fit.
Thanks to everyone who chimed in their support. Things are so hard right now.
