At 85 years of age, I became a new daddy. This is the first one I've successfully raised from an egg. She'll be headed to Mexico before long. My g-grandaughter named her Kaylee.

Congratulations Ed! Great job! It's amazing how the last generation that flies to Mexico live up to 8 months while the ones prior to that only up to 6 weeks. I'm in Florida so mine stay here.

Ed! I had no idea! Kaylee is really beautiful. How satisfying this must feel and yet a bit sad to see her take off and go into her future which you have given her. Congratulations, Ed. What a feat to behold.

Congratulations papa. Very fun. We have tons of milkweed and have seen more this year, which is encouraging.

Congratulations, Ed. I can't claim to have raised a monarch from an egg--but my flowers and buddleia bushes in my front yard are currently hosting a monarch mating frenzy. So it appears that I'm running a singles bar for butterflies.

Congratulations on your beautiful baby, Ed! You are a blessing to the butterflies.

A Marie, I just began using a face cream that uses buddleia davidii stem cells as an ingredient. I had never heard of this plant before, and now you mention it. What a coincidence!

This is the best thing I've heard all week. I love that Ed is papa butterfly. And I love that A Marie has a butterfly singles bar in her yard. Butterflies are a thing for my DH and me. Here's a recent picture of a butterfly suncatcher he gave me with its new dragonfly friend.

I once volunteered at a Nature Center and got to watch the entire life cycle of these beautiful creatures. Congratulations on your "new addition"!

OMG, Ed! I’ve had a really long day. At first, all that registered in your post was “successfully raised from an egg”. I scrolled down, expecting to see a chicken and couldn’t imagine why your granddaughter was taking a newborn chick to Mexico. I had a long Mohs’ surgery today, but can’t blame after affects of anesthesia as it was site injected Lidocaine. I really need a drink. (Your new addition is beautiful, by the way.)

I had to look up Moh's surgery. Apparently it has a very high success rate. I'll say a little prayer for you, and I hope you heal quickly.

Thanks for the comments. Love the butterfly singles bar and the sun catcher. It's really amazing what happens during their life cycle.

Fantastic! So proud of your success. I too have a lot of the milkweed plants! Between the butterflies and the hummingbirds I feel I have a little paradise! Know they will be leaving the end of this month 😢 but that’s the way it’s supposed to be!

congratulations on raising your first child!!
