New here and need advice

I'm new here to the message boards. My dad is 82 and his primary care provider. I get between 20 to 25 hours of caregiving support from the state department of aging. I'm working on getting extra hours from the VA.
My dad has end stage dementia. It's becoming difficult to handle him in the overnight hours to get him to sleep. I have difficulty sleeping because he's a fall risk. I took a nap last night and I woke up and found him on the floor in the kitchen. He has limited communication, almost bed ridden, talking but not making sense. My mom died 5 years ago and at times doesn't remember she's dead. He keeps calling her name.

I may have to put him in a nursing home within the next month or so. We are in a temporary residence now due to a house fire. The house is under his name but still has a mortgage but I can not afford to take over the mortgage. I have to wait for an insurance check to cover my personal property that was destroyed in the fire so I can have a basic things like a bed to sleep in

How do I go about getting my dad admitted to a nursing home when it's time? Most likely he'll need Medicaid to help pay for it.
My dad's dementia went from moderate to severe overnight. He needs total assist for everything. It's been an emotional time over the past month since it went to severe.

I second contacting an elder law attorney, nelf.org. You might also want to reach out to your long term care ombudsman, usually at your Area agency on Aging office.

Has your dad had a recent medical appointment? I would start there.
