Living situation

I need advice. My father, whom lives about 8 hours away from me, has been struggling with what the doctors think is VD. He refuses to go to the neurologist and thinks there is nothing wrong with him, we are the crazy ones. I have toured AL and even put a deposit on one close to my home. He refuses to leave his home where he lives alone. What are my options to get him into the AL? My sister has power of attorney and all the necessary documents. Do we trick him and bring him up here? I am so lost on this matter and any insight will help. He is declining fast. Thank you.

Hello, and welcome to the forum. This particular board gets very little traffic, you might want to post on the "I am a Caregiver" or "Caring for a Parent" forum.

This is hard, and what you do depends on how capable he is. If he is still capable of calling a cab, or a lawyer, and revoking your power of attorney, then trying to trick him into AL might not work. It would be a good idea to spend several days with him to get an idea of his capabilities. Some people have tried to put cameras in the home and set up support services until their LO progressed or ended up in the hospital.
