    My DH keeps wanting to contact women he used to work with telling me that they were his girlfriends. He had me wondering if this really happened. I came to the conclusion that he is confabulating these scenarios, just like everything else. I think you are right to tell family members not to go digging into the past. In all likelihood the stories are not true.

    You are right on. I would encourage those family members to read up on dementia to understand it better. Confabulation, delusions and telling whoppers of lies are all very common with a PWD. And it doesn't matter what happened decades ago, all we have is now and the priority now is a terminally ill person. The focus now should be on making the PWD comfortable. Say whatever brings comfort in the moment; don't follow up on accusations of dubious origins and stir up family drama.
