I want to put a tracker on my brother's truck so I know where he is driving. What tools have y'all used that worked well for you?

Do you have POA, or are you his guardian? In most cases, this is illegal. Is he a PWD and perhaps should not be driving at all?

There are phone apps, but he would have to agree to that, and then sign in on his own for you.

IME, an Apple Air Tag is the best for tracking in real time if you are an Apple person/family.

That said, if he has a diagnosis of dementia, his insurance may be invalid. It's best to discuss with the agent who sold the policy. Dad's insurance was void the moment the diagnosis hit his medical record. Had he been in an accident, not only might he lose everything in a lawsuit his POA (mom) would be liable for allowing him to drive.

The strategy we used was to remove his car. He was angry with me and agreed to sell it, so I drove him immediately to unload it. He forgot, of course, but it was one less thing to worry about. Mom hid the keys to her car; it's easier when the PWD doesn't have a visual trigger in the garage or drive.

One thing to keep in mind is that a PWD will be OK to drive (or use the stove, or walk to the store solo) until they aren't and you won't necessarily get a warning.

The other piece is that if they do have an accident and there is a lawsuit, the future-version of your LO who is to be deposed and potentially be in court will be a more impaired looking and acting individual than he is today. My mom (no dementia) was sued after an accident with an out-of-court settlement made over 18 months after incident.
