New here

Hello group. I’m new to this forum and I’m looking for resources and help with my mother. My husband and I just moved in with her. Her sundown has her kicking us out every night. How can I divert this behavior or learn how to deal with it without it hurting me? Are there zoom support groups? Are there any 12 step programs?

i understand this is a disease and it’s not here. I would love help with communicating with her when she reacts and gets angry. I get triggered and sometimes I make it worse.

thank you.

Hello Lisa. There is quite a lot to learn and the members will teach you. You have posted in a forum that is usually visited by people with dementia. I suggest that you repost on one of the Caregiver boards, where more members will see and respond.

Hello and a very warm welcome to you Lisa. You are indeed facing a challenge and from experience, I can well understand the stress and frustration that comes with all of the ever changing dynamics.

I would also agree with Iris; you have landed on a Forum that is for persons who actually have dementia themselves. I also recommend your going to the Caregiver Forum and putting your Post there. You will get many more helpful responses.

There is no perfection in the caregiving world; only the best one can do under the circumstances with the challenges at hand. When we learn more, we do better, but there will still be challenges and the wonderful caregiving Members on the Caregiviers Forum will have good experiential wisdom to share with you. A good book to read would be, "The 36 Hour Day."

The Alzheimer's Assn. also has a 24 hour, 365 day year helpline that can be reached at (800) 272-3900. If you call, ask to be transferred to a Care Consultant. There are no fees for this service. Consultants are highly educated Social Workers who specialize in dementia and family dynamics. They offer helpful advice, have much information and are very supportive.

Sending warm thoughts and best wishes your way,

    J.
