Hello, I have an aunt that is living in a memory care facility she is 85. My mother ( her twin sister) and I live in a different state. We just went for a brief visit and have some concerns. Her guardian does not visit on a regular basis. Is it possible for us to hire (private pay) a person to go and visit her on a weekly basis? Where do we even begin? Any ideas, input would be greatly appreciated.

My sister and I live a day’s drive from my mother and are senior citizens ourselves. My mother is in an excellent memory care unit. We hired a friend to visit my mother twice a week. I don’t know what we would do without this person. She visits my mother twice a week and reports back to me about any concerns and problems, as well as any good news.

You could try an agency, Comfort Keepers is mentioned here sometimes, Seniors Helping Seniors is another one. Agencies can be national franchises or small local ones. Sometimes the local Alz Assoc will keep a list, although they might not recommend any specific one. An agency will do background checks etc. Another avenue is to go private, you have to do the background checks, pay taxes as necessary. Some people use care.com for this. Others go by referrals from friends, suppo0rt group members etc.
