Some better news to share

Hello ,
After a weekend from hell, where in desperation i called hospice and begged for a solution to my huband's agitation and Insomnia, the kind nurse and doctor advised me what to do, and DH slept through the night . It was. of course, sunday, and where i live there are no 24 hour pharmacies, so we had to utilize what i had on hand, and double up on the seroquel, which worked for the time being. His drastic personality change is still here, and maybe this hostile person is who he has become , idk. What I do know, is that i need to be able to sleep at least some of the time, and that has not been the case for the past 5 days.
So, after getting some sleep , i contacted a caregiver who used to work for my mom, and she is going to come every saturday from 9-2:30. Now i will look for another person to take 2:30 to 7:PM, so that i can have a whole day . I live on an island, so if i want to attend an event on the mainland i have to allow an hour of ferry travel each way, so i need the xtra time. I know that you all can identify with the relief i am feeling at this moment...just to get a piece of my life back.
Also, i have someone who will be renting the master suite on the second floor. They will use a separate entrance, and i know them well, so there will be some funds for the care giving.
Next week i will resume teaching here at home, with an aide here to watch over things so im not interrupted. I was beginning to think that I wouldn't have the stamina to do this, but im going to give it my best shot. I love the kids (and adults) who come here , and would hate to give that up too.
Thanks to all of you for being so supportive.
Maureen

Maureen, so glad to hear that he finally slept through the night. Perhaps the larger dose of Seroquel was just what he needed and hopefully that will continue to work. Maybe it will help with some of the other symptoms too in the following days. A lot of people on the forum have had good luck with it. Also great to hear that you found a caregiver for part of Saturday’s and you can find another one for the rest of the day. Having a break is so important.
Great to hear that you will resume teaching at home. Seeing different people on a regular basis will be a good relief.

I can hear the sense of hope and excitement in your post. Happy for you 😊 Being able to have a little piece of life for ourselves does wonders for our capacity to give more.

I know how hard it can be when you feel like you’re the only one steering the ship. So glad you were able to get some rest.

Maureen, so glad you are getting help and moving in a positive direction. Thank you for this update. My last 2 nights have been hell. They started my DH on Mirtazipine 2 nights ago 7.5 mg for depression and it caused his agitation & anger to increase off the charts. I thought that the 2nd night might be better but it was worse. He's now sleeping all day. Have a call in to the Geri Psyche to change his meds. Maybe change to Seroquel?
