Sister with early onset ....

Sister has declined so much in these past 6 years. She isn't able to converse with us. She stutters her words. She has also has a habit of chewing on everything. This has filed her teeth down to nubs. Is there something I can do to discourage this behavior. She also has started to suck her thumb and fingers. Basically, declining back to infancy.

Hi, sorry for these troubles. Glad you came to this space for support. I couldn’t have made it through my caregiving role without these kind and wise folks.

My mom would also chew on things. I actually got her baby teethers in the late stage. She used them, it was a drooly mess yet better than worrying about choking hazards. Maybe Bitter Apple might help. It’s often advertised for pets but humans use it too, for nail biting and thumb sucking.

Hope you find something that works for both of you.

    Hi @leilani

I'm so sorry that the two of you are going through this. I also have a sister with early onset, diagnosed about 5 years ago. I haven't run into this specific problem, bu I just wanted to lend some support.
