Vivid dreams and waking from nightmares

My mom often wakes in the morning very disturbed from vivid dreams and nightmares. She is on Cymbalta and Donepezil, among other meds for cholesterol, blood pressure, etc. I’m wondering if anyone else has had similar issues from the combination of those two meds. I’d like to bring it up with the neurologist later this month. Thanks for the insight!

Hi lisa, i would suspect the donepezil is the cause. If you are giving it at night you could try switching it to morning, but i would have a low threshold to just discontinue it.

When the neurologist started my LO on Donezepil, he said to give it in the morning, as giving it at night had been associated with vivid dreams. I checked Drugs.com for interactions between your two medications and if you check the professional data it does show a minor one. Do bring it up with your doctor, a calmer PWD is a less stressed out caregiver.

My mom is not on cymbalta, but is on donepezil and her dreams can be so vivid she believes they actually happened. We spoke to her dr about it because they weren’t pleasant dreams and the dr confirmed it was a side effect that she experiences from the med.
