Trouble walking.....

For the past few months, my LO has been clutching doorways and not letting go. She seems terrified of walking these days. Does this mean her ability to walk is coming to an end?

Have you consulted with the PCP?

Is she using a walker? If not, then she should be. My mom holds onto doorframes, walls, tables, chairs etc if she takes a step or more away from her walker. However there’s also the situation where PWD see doorways differently than we do. She may see them as something of a border between the floor and a deep hole. Make sure the next room is well lit before you try to get her to go through the door

Could be. I was surprised we got my mom to use a walker when this started to happen. As long as someone put it in front of her she would use it most of the time.

There is more than one thing that can be causing what you are seeing. Please go over this with her neurologist and do try a walker ..,

She needs a medical evaluation. Please have her see her doctor.

The walker is a great help. If that's the only issue you are fortunate. My wife of 60 yrs. not only in 5-6 stage has spinal stenosis. Doctors refuse to operate saying she would not tolerate the recovery. I suspect different that it's because of the anesthesia effects....different subject. She is on Percocet, tramadol, and gabapentin PLUS the memory meds. During the day she can navigate pretty will but hangs on to things, evening around 6pm she goes completely blank and I have to lead her by hand everywhere. She's not afraid where she is going, just doesn't know where to go and how to get there. Unable to tell AM and PM. Has no concept of time at all.
