So I needed a humor break today. We are SO close to surgery. Just need cardiologist sign off for anesthesia and pre op consultation and we’re set.

If had to live in memory care (and hers would be a first choice), I would need hot coffee to feel like a human and an adult. So I have really advocated to them for coffee on demand, especially mornings.

Today I asked if my mom if they were serving coffee and she said “no, never, they always say the machine is broken.” I was so disappointed. It hurt because it’s a little thing that could make such a difference. I decided to talk to staff after our appt this afternoon.

I was nice, and asked “I wonder, are you still able to serve coffee in the morning?” Two said “yes of course, we have so much of it now.” I told them she said she never gets it. Imagine my surprise when they said “now that’s not quite true: she gets it every day. Every morning!” They proceeded to tell me the mornings events, including her coffee every day this week. Tomorrow they will text me a photo of her with coffee. My mom came out and was like “oh yes that’s right! Thank you.” All of us were smiling.

I am relieved. None of this is good; but the idea that we are not all robots living through this nightmare really calms me, I need that. I am grateful to every single AL and MC staff person who actually cares. It is amazing.

Ahhh, yes - the "I-forgot-I-just-ate/drank" issue... It can get anyone frustrated for sure!

MIL had just put down her plate from breakfast when I reminded her that she had to take her pills. She prefers not to take pills on empty stomach, and that is understandable. I got: "I haven't eaten anything yet." Told her that she had just now put down her plate and pointed to it. She looked at the plate, looked at me, and you'd think I'd swatted her with a wet sock.

With that, she said "SOOO!" and got a peanut-butter-jelly... Awwwrighty...
