I've been working with our CELA on longterm Medicaid. After pulling docs, rearranging things, and managing the "spend down" we finally were approved yesterday. Still work to do. I need to schedule time with the social worker and hire an agency, but we're approved for in home care. I cannot express the relief I feel.

Please see a CELA. Everyone talks about needing to be near poverty to qualify for Medicaid. That is not true in my state and may not be the case in yours. At the very least it's worth a consultation. Through the use of a trust, a Medicaid compliant annuity, and some very detailed planning, we'll be able to keep our home, vehicle, and financial assets.

Most importantly, I will be able to get help while keeping my DH at home for now.

Jeanne, that's great!! My experience was like yours. I didn't think we could qualify either. You don't have to be a pauper to get the help. You just need a CELA.
