Pill Reminder App Recommendation

I handle refilling my parents medications and filling their med boxes. I was using the Hero pill dispenser and app. It would notify me when they didn't take their medication so I could call and nudge them. Now I have to send the Hero back because the program is discontinued.

I'm looking for pill reminder app recommendation. My dad is very phone savvy, uses it (to a fault sometimes) for his calendar and tasks. So a phone app would be fine for him. But I need one that makes him confirm he took them, and where a caregiver (me) can monitor them.

Any recommendations?

P.S. Dad has Alzheimer's and Mom has Parkinson's, among many others. Combined they take 32 different pills, along with other non-pill medications.

Hi wil45 - welcome to 'here', but sorry for the reason. Good that dad can still utilize that. Please do watch out for a point where he may not be able to, though.

You can check out GoodRx for some recommendations.

The very first one on the list might work for you? The second one on the list is "DoseCast" and is 'mostly' free, but you can unlock a feature that has: Syncing your data across multiple devices. And if one of the apps isn't working out, you could easily try another.

The first one on that list is "Medisafe" - and is free (both iOS and Android)

Medisafe has been around for almost a decade. It’s a favorite for many people and is free to use. To use the app, you would type in your medications, similar to what is described.

After you type in all of your medications, the app builds a report of when you take each of your medications. If you like, you can share the report with a family member or caregiver. They can check to see if you’re missing any doses.

Call me a cynic, but what's to keep your dad from confirming on the app but not really taking the pills? At some point, there is nothing short of direct observation that will work. This point is sooner rather than later, no matter how much we wish it otherwise. Are they living on their own?

@SusanB-dil - Thank you! I actually use GoodRx a lot for their meds. Saved them lots of money. I'll check out Medisafe. Looks like it may work.

@M1 - I had this issue even with the Hero. I would often find a cup of pills just lying around when I visited to fill their pill boxes with what couldn't fit in Hero. Yes, they are living on their own. Refuse to move. They have an in-home caretaker visit in the afternoons to help out. We've recently bumped that visit to 10-6 and I plan to adjust their pill schedule (if Dr approves) so that 3 out of 4 dispenses are supervised.
