I moved into mom’s home to care for her 2 1/2 years ago. I gave up my career!!!! This caregiving business is HARD and not too pleasant at times.

Alzheimers Association offers some support groups, but not too many. Are there any support groups that are not thru the association? Are there any free groups, activities that I can take my mom to for participation?

Welcome to the forum, @Dani W , though I’m sorry for the reason you found us. This site is amazing, and has been literally a life saver while caring for my LO with dementia.

I don’t care for my mom at home and it is STILL all consuming! So I understand, and can only imagine. Are there local senior centers with adult day care that could give you a break? They may also know of support groups - for her and you. Some of the hospitals with memory centers run support groups as well. I would also call your local dept in aging - city or state. They usually have a special website or phone number for care givers.

    you are not alone.

Yes - sometimes this board is really busy, sometimes it takes a while for people to respond to posts. But you will find lots of support here.

I hear you! 3 years ago I came to visit my folks for dinner. I've never left since. I gave up a new home, job, and a planned 2nd marriage to be here to support my mom's dementia which is now Alzheimer's Stage 5. I need some support. Some therapy. Or I'm going to lose it.
